February Pool Update

There are approximately 10 weeks remaining in the Winnipeg season and somewhere between 4 and 8 weeks left in the rural leagues. I hope everyone uses those weeks to get their players qualified for the year-end playoffs. Each league has different league weeks to qualify for the playoffs:

  • Winnipeg Fall League – A minimum of 4 players with 12 or more weeks and the 5th player can have less than 12 weeks, but not less than 8 weeks.
  • Winnipeg Winter Leagues – All players must play 6 weeks to qualify for the playoffs.
  • Brandon Leagues – A minimum of 4 players with 12 or more weeks and the 5th player can have less than 12 weeks, but not less than 8 weeks.
  • Selkirk, Beausejour, Northern, Portage, Southeast & Southwest Leagues – All players need 8 weeks to qualify for the playoffs.

WINNIPEG PLAYOFF SCHEDULE

2024 WPG PLAYOFF SCHEDULE

I have been asked to explain the new VNEA rule that was adopted this year. The new rule has to do with the “Push Shot”. A Push Shot is:

It is a foul if the cue ball is pushed by the cue tip, with contact being maintained for more than the momentary time commensurate with a normal and legally stroked shot. (Such shots are usually referred to as push shots.)

The change in the rule is the elimination of the 45-degree portion. In basic terms, if the cueball & object ball are frozen (no space between them) you are permitted to shoot that ball without raising the butt end of your cue to a 45-degree angle. Here is a link that will demonstrate what a push shot is – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rip8xwobksc

The 2024 Winnipeg Playoffs will take place at the Assiniboia Downs – April 18th to 28th. The playoff schedule is available on the Aactive website. It won’t give you the times that you play, but it will give you the dates that I will be running each division of team and singles.

Judging by the schedules, there are numerous make up matches that need to be completed by the end of the season. If teams fail to play a match, they will receive no stats for team or individual stats. Teams will still be responsible to pay the league fees for those matches that aren’t made up.

Good luck to all the players traveling to Edmonton for the WCVNEA Championships!
